Thursday, October 4th starting at 6pm
Bring a friend and tap your feet with Emilia Amper, one of Sweden’s biggest folk music stars. Experience a 21st century twist on a 600-year-old instrument, the nyckelharpa, as her lively band keeps you moving with a joyous energy and charm that appeals to all ages.
Emilia Amper is one of Sweden’s most successful folk musicians. She is an award-winning composer and singer, an exceptional bandleader across genres, and a world champion player of the nyckelharpa, a traditional instrument played in Sweden for more than 600 years.
Emilia has been nominated for Grammy Awards in the United States, Sweden, and Norway and has won Artist of the Year at the Swedish Folk & World Music Awards. Through her deep knowledge of folk traditions, Emilia also earned the prestigious title of Riksspelman, which designates her as a national folk musician of Sweden. She has released two acclaimed albums and collaborated with numerous ensembles and orchestras.
For Arts Midwest Folkefest, Emilia will assemble a unique band featuring nyckelharpa, fiddle, cello, and percussion. The group will share lively, foot-tapping music with energy and charm that will appeal to all ages and listeners.
