The Iron Range is Open for Business!

The Iron Range is Open for Business campaign launched

Virginia, Minnesota –As customers are slowly allowed to resume their normal shopping experiences businesses need to make sure they feel comfortable entering their stores.  One way businesses can do this is by taking the Iron Range is Open for Business Pledge at  By taking this pledge, business owners commit to following the best practices around social distancing and the use of personal protective equipment, increasing their cleaning and disinfecting efforts, properly training their staff, working only when healthy, using drop-of, pick-up and delivery of goods when possible and welcoming all patrons.  This pledge is a tangible way for businesses to let customers know they are doing the work necessary to keep them safe.   Business owners who take the open for business pledge receive a free window cling to display at their business as well as a free listing on the webpage.

Jim Makowsky, General Manager of both Eveleth’s Super 8 Motel and Virginia’s AmericInn Lodge and Suites worked with the coalition put together by the Iron Range Tourism Board to launch the Open for Business Pledge.  The hotels he manages have made tangible changes to the way they clean rooms and the way in which they operate to comply with the Minnesota Department of Health’s guidelines.  He believes businesses should take the Open for Business pledge because, “it is a way to convey a message to their customers that they care and are a responsible business in the community.”

Erik Holmstrom, President of the Laurentian Chamber of Commerce said, “we took the pledge because it reflects how we operate as a responsible organization. We encourage all our member businesses to take the pledge and show visitors to the Eveleth, Gilbert, Mt. Iron and Virginia area our businesses are safe and ready to provide them with great products and great service.”

The Open for Business Pledge was developed by the Iron Range Tourism Bureau and Hibbing Area Chamber of Commerce with support from the Aurora Chamber of Commerce, Chisholm Chamber of Commerce, and Laurentian Chamber of Commerce.
