Giants Ridge Unveils State-of-the-Art Snowmaking Infrastructure
It’s a winter wonderland at Giants Ridge! Today marked a milestone in the evolution of winter sports and tourism in Biwabik as Giants Ridge proudly unveiled their newly enhanced snowmaking infrastructure. This celebratory ribbon-cutting event, hosted by the Laurentian Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the collaboration between Giants Ridge, Lakehead Constructors, and Snow Machines, Inc. (SMI), which made this ambitious project a reality.
The upgrades to Giants Ridge’s snowmaking system are nothing short of transformative. Now equipped with over 100 state-of-the-art snowmaking machines, the resort is ready to deliver premium snow conditions with increased efficiency and energy conservation. Key features of the new system include:
- Modern Infrastructure: Aging waterlines, hydrants, and electrical systems have been replaced, with additional infrastructure added to extend snowmaking coverage across the mountain.
- Automation Controls: Cutting-edge technology allows for snowmaking operations to adjust automatically based on weather conditions, ensuring optimal snow production.
- App Integration: A new app enables remote management of snowmaking processes, enhancing precision and responsiveness.
- Greater Capacity: The expanded fleet of snow machines ensures faster snow production, even during early-season and marginal weather conditions.

Today’s celebration included remarks from representatives of the Laurentian Chamber of Commerce, Giants Ridge, Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation (IRRR), Lakehead Constructors, SMI, the city of Biwabik, and the Minnesota State Legislature.
